Week Ten
December 5th through the 11th
Feelings of burnout are prevalent at this time of year. Everyday stress turns into festive holiday stress and living in a northern state, the lack of sunshine really takes its toll. I think that is one of the reasons this week began so poorly.
From the start, a concept just did not come to me. I couldn’t think of a single interesting idea for the Coffin prompt. Then when I finally did come up with the concept of a Coffin Bath, I could not for the life of me figure out how to draw something that looked even halfway decent.
Thoroughly defeated, I gave up on Sunday evening.
But Monday morning I woke with a bunch of new ideas and I got a little carried away with sketching.
Things that went well with this week’s art piece:
~ The colors!
~ Deep contrast
~ Interesting texture
On the not so great end of things:
~ Conceptualizing
~ Sketching
Coffin Bath I
Coffin Bath II
Queen of the Dead
Naturally, with so many amazing sketches, I needed the help of my lovely community to decide which would be the concept for the week. The majority vote cast Coffin Bath I as the winner!
Still feeling drained when I took the piece into the studio, I made this one smaller than I have been working on lately, hoping it would be less stressful to finish on time.
And I was right! I finished it one day. I literally can’t remember the last time I finished something in one day.
My favorite part of this piece is the water. I have painted little water because I find it intimidating, but with the appropriate layers, the black water just looks so cool. Plus, the white gel pen highlights and water streaks on her skin are super fuckin cool.
What is your favorite part of this piece? Let me know in the comments below.
