Dreaming Awake

I never quite know how I’ll wake up. Shrouded in a memory with contusions on my mind, and phantom bruises on my body. Or my head up in the clouds, dreaming of a fantasy world beyond my reach. Sometimes it switches every day and other times I’ll go long periods without change. I strive to bring the two together. Currently, the central theme of my work is escapism. Even so, I can see how I am creating the type of world I wish existed. One in which women have no reason to feel afraid - strong protectors at their sides.

I create a window to an alternative and dreamlike world where women and their fantastical familiars embody an divergent depiction of female power. When people look at my paintings the lively, vibrant colors absorb them. As they get comfortable with the image, they decide to stay because it feels romantic, almost velvety. Women want to be the girls of my paintings and men wish they could know them.
